Bath and brush
A bath and brush is the basic visit: shampoo, conditioner if needed, a thorough dry and brush-out, plus ears and often nails. It suits short-coated dogs like Labs, Beagles and Boxers, and is a good in-between visit for dogs that get full haircuts.
Full groom and haircut
A full groom adds a haircut to the bath, either a breed-standard trim or a simple, short "summer cut" that is easier to keep up in Florida heat. Poodles, Doodles, Shih Tzus, Yorkies, Maltese and Schnauzers usually need a cut every few weeks. Bring a photo of the look you want and say how short you like it around the face, feet and tail.
Nail trim
Long nails change how a dog walks and can split or catch on carpet. Many groomers offer quick nail trims or nail grinding as a walk-in or add-on service. If your dog is very sensitive about feet, let the groomer know in advance.
De-shedding
Double-coated breeds like Huskies, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and Corgis shed heavily, especially as Florida's seasons change. A de-shedding treatment uses special shampoo, a high-velocity dryer and undercoat tools to pull out loose fur. Shaving a double coat is often discouraged, so ask the groomer what they recommend.
Puppy groom
A first groom helps a puppy get used to the table, the dryer, clippers and having paws handled. It is usually short and gentle: a bath, light tidy, nails and lots of patience. Many groomers suggest starting once puppy vaccinations are done.
Other add-ons

Common questions
How long does a dog grooming appointment take?
Anywhere from under an hour for a small bath to several hours for a large, matted dog at a busy salon. Mobile appointments are often quicker because there is no waiting.
What if my dog is matted?
Severe matting often has to be shaved for the dog's comfort. Groomers may charge extra for dematting.
Do groomers need vaccination records?
Most ask for proof of a current rabies vaccine, and some ask for others. Check with the groomer.

Ocala Dog Grooming is a free referral service, not a grooming salon. We do not groom pets ourselves. Requests are passed to independent groomers and mobile grooming vans in the area that set their own prices, do the work and are fully responsible for it. Ask any groomer about pricing, vaccination requirements and how they handle nervous or senior dogs before you book.
